Accell®, when fed to the influent of cellulose acetate or thin film composite reverse osmosis systems, can significantly reduce biofouling of the membranes providing the following benefits:
- Extends the life of existing and/or new membranes by extending the time between chemical cleaning and in some cases eliminates the need for chemical cleaning.
- Increases the throughput of existing membrane systems.
- Reduces operating costs by reducing the operating pressure necessary to achieve the desired throughput and reduced cleaning cycles.
Accell® breaks down the existing biofilm formed on the membrane and prevents formation of new biofilm in the channels of the membrane. Elimination of the biofilm reduces the need for the chemical cleaning and the increased operating pressures necessary to maintain the desired throughput.
Accell® is normally fed at 3 ppm to the influent of the system. Higher dose rates of Accell® can be used to clean fouled membrane systems without removing the system from service.
