Eliminating the source of persistent odors: build-up in porous surfaces

Not only does this example exemplify the extraordinary cleaning power of AccellGreen™, it is an example of removing the source of odors, as well. The left side shows build-up in porous grout lines in an institutional kitchen that had been using an industry leading, so-called “enzyme” cleaner after several years of use. The right photo shows how one cleaning cycle with AccellGreen™ eliminated much of the build-up in the pores. Such build-up, many times not visibly noticeable, can be the source of persistent odors. Even in bathrooms AccellGreen™ and Accell® Clean can eliminate persistent odors after only a few days of use, if not immediately.Biofilms, which harbor bacteria, are the source of many odors. The P-SS™ technology breaks down biofilms, leading to reduction in persistent odors. [Enhancing Metabolic Processes]
Virtually all other consumer and institutional cleaners that claim to be deodorizing have one or more of the following characteristics:
- Fragrances are used to mask odors, many times leaving a sweet-smelling foul odor. In addition, many people are sensitive or allergic to fragrances.
- Disinfectant chemicals are biocides and therefore inherently hazardous as their purpose is to kill bacteria. They do not penetrate through biofilms and therefore do not remove the source of persistent odors. Many such products rely on their fragrance to mask odors.
- Live bacteria, typically in spore form, become “active” with the addition of water. They work by adding bacteria to the environment, the exact opposite of disinfectant type deodorizers, but neither approach is optimal. Disinfectants do not break down biofilms and therefore do not eliminate the source of persistent odors. As a side note, a deodorizer that uses “enzymes” is highly likely to be using live bacteria as the source of the so-called “enzymes.”
- Odor Removal with Accell® in Wastewater Systems
Accell® not only improves the efficiency of breaking down organic compounds and increases nutrient uptake of bacteria, it removes odors in wastewater treatment plants, sewer systems and septic systems.
